Lightweight Backpacking Stoves
Solid fuel does not generally burn for a long time and heat cannot be regulated. Good for boiling.
Now that you have decided on a lightweight backpacking stove stove you need cookware. Stainless steel, hard anodized, non-stick and aluminum are the commonest. One thing you want is versatility. Is the plate deep enough to use as a bowl? Do you have a "spork"? Durability is next-can your cook set handle the bumps and bangs it is sure to encounter? What about clean up? Surely non-stick is best. What about “stackability?” Do all the pieces stack together into a compact bundle? Cost is another factor. If you are going to use the set a lot then a slightly costlier more durable cookware set is what you should find. Last but definitely not least is safety. Some cookware sets have stay cool handles or handles that will rotate away from the heat. This is a good thing. ;-) Tight fitting lids not only save fuel but can save a spill resulting in a nasty burn. |
